Joining the library
If you live, work or study in Thurrock you can become a library member at any age.
It's free to join and you don’t need to show any proof of who you are. You can join online and collect your library card when you visit your chosen library.
If you join at your local library there are no forms to fill in, just ask a member of staff. If you are under 16 years-old, bring a parent or carer with you the first time you visit.
You can use your card to borrow items from any Thurrock library or Essex County Council library. Thurrock Libraries is also part of The Libraries Consortium
Your library account details
Please make sure your contact details are kept up-to-date on your library account. We may contact you by email, text or voicemail to tell you about your reservations and when items are due for renewal or are overdue. We no longer send letters by post so it's important to add your email address, if you have one.
Group membership
Group membership allows you to borrow books for children or groups of children that you care for.
Group membership is available for:
- pre-schools and nurseries
- childminders
- foster carers
- youth groups, for example cubs and brownies, girls and boys brigade
Memory card
You can get a special type of library card if you are living with dementia. The Memory Library Card incurs no fees or charges, so if customers forget to return library items on time, they won't be charged. Please ask at your library about a memory card.
Access Card
An access card is aimed at those who are unable to access printed books due to a mobility or disability issue such as a visual impairment. Please enquire at your local library for further details.
